Job Description
Main Purpose –
- Ensuring world-class standards are being maintained at the facility
- Ensure proper maintenance and handling of potato germplasm.
- Ensure periodic DNA fingerprinting and virus tests of all the clones to maintain genetic purity and health
- Ensure timely multiplication of plantlets to fulfil seed pipeline requirement
- Ensure identification of key suppliers and sustain relationships with them
Accountabilities –
- Ensuring world-class standards are being maintained at the facility
- Establish a relationship with CPRI and Frito-Lay, the USA to have SOPs for media preparation, handling lab, growth room and germplasm conservation
- Execute protocols and SOP to maintain sanitation, handling glassware and media preparation operations
- Ensure proper maintenance and handling of potato germplasm.
- Arrange for long term preservation of all the potato clones
- Arrange for maintenance of all the germplasm lines by periodic sub-culturing
- Ensure periodic DNA fingerprinting and virus tests of all the clones to maintain genetic purity and health
- Identify the right sources to obtain periodic DNA fingerprints and virus testing of all the clones
- To maintain genetic purity and health of all the clones, arrange timely and periodic DNA fingerprint and virus testing of all the clones being maintained in the facility
- Maintain documents/records obtained from DNA fingerprints and ELISA tests conducted at regular interval
- Ensure timely multiplication of plantlets to fulfil seed pipeline requirement
- Maintain close relationship with seed team to know the seed pipeline requirement
- Understand the process of generation advancement and field multiplication processes
- Arrange mass multiplication of desired clones to deliver the right number of plantlets for AHT production
- Ensure identification of key supplier – glassware/chemical/facilities for DNA fingerprints and potato health and sustain a relationship with them
- Identify best suppliers for lab glassware and chemicals and maintain a good relationship with the
- Identify the best and most trustworthy biotech facilities to test the genetic purity and health of all the clones.
Qualifications/Requirements –
- Education – M.Sc./ Ph.D in Plant Tissue culture/Biotechnology
- Functional Experience – Approx. 3-5 years of experience
- Language – Hindi, English
Experience –
- At least 3-5 years of subculturing/ mass multiplication of plantlets preferably on the potato crop
- Proven experience in media preparation, dealing with lab suppliers
- Understanding of obtaining DNA fingerprinting virus testing procedures
- Experience in dealing with local government authorities, suppliers, transporters, farmer unions
