Job Description for Research Associate
WRI India is seeking an experienced Research Associate with excellent analytical and writing skills, and knowledge and interest in urbanization, development, and gender equity issues in India. The role involves working on a study focused on Gender and Mobility in urban India, in collaboration with WRI India’s Sustainable Cities and Transport and Research Data and Impact (RDI) teams.
Job Responsibilities
As a Research Associate, you will:
- Support the Director RDI and project research team with planning, conducting, and managing the research project.
- Collate, review, and analyze literature and data.
- Organize regular review meetings and collaborate with internal and external partners and experts.
- Systematically review, summarize, and draw out insights from relevant literature related to gender relations, mobility, cities, and public transport in India and globally.
- Review and analyze secondary data sources as well as WRI’s existing primary data related to gender and mobility in Indian cities.
- Help organize and conduct interviews and FGDs as required.
- Write and share regular analytic notes related to key emerging themes and findings.
- Assist in writing and revising key documents, including research and publication plans, and manuscript drafts, in line with WRI knowledge product standards and guidelines.
- Support sharing and dissemination of research insights and findings through project-related seminars, presentations, research papers, and associated infographics and communications pieces.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by the RDI Director and Associate/Director, Sustainable Cities and Transport related to gender and mobility research, analysis, and policy work.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- An advanced degree in a relevant social science discipline, such as economics, sociology, development, urban planning, or public policy, with 3+ years of relevant experience (a PhD will count for years of experience).
- A clear understanding of the research process, methods, and standards, with experience working on interdisciplinary and applied research using mixed methods.
- Excellent writing, reasoning, and communication skills, with the ability to structure and organize research papers and write clearly and succinctly for diverse audiences.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and systematic, with the ability to work independently and manage tight deadlines.
- Experience writing and publishing peer-reviewed research papers and/or high-quality research and evidence-based policy reports.
- Strong computer skills, with experience in referencing, research management, and statistical and geo-spatial software being a plus.
- Good interpersonal skills and comfort working with staff at different levels of experience in a diverse and global organization.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and learning-oriented.
- Demonstrated interest and knowledge of urban, gender, and development issues in India, with a commitment to sustainable and equitable development.
