The Gujarat Police Department, headquartered in Gandhinagar, the state capital, and Ahmedabad, serves as the law enforcement agency for the state of Gujarat in India. It was established after Gujarat’s separation from the Greater Mumbai state on 1 May 1960. The Director General of Police (DGP) heads the Gujarat Police Department. It operates four Commissioners’ offices in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Rajkot. The department comprises nine ranges: Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Gandhinagar, Surat, Rajkot, Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Dahod Panchmahal, and Border Range. The state’s police administration further divides into 33 police districts and Western Railway Police.
