Applications are invited for a VRITIKA Research Internship on Computational and Theoretical Aspects of Gravitational Physics at IIIT, Allahabad.

The Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT-A) was established in 1999, as a center of excellence in Information Technology and allied areas. The institute was conferred the “Deemed University” status by the Govt. of India in the year 2000. IIITA is currently an Institute of National Importance established by the Act of Parliament.

Objective

The objective of the workshop is To train young postgraduate students in Gravitational Wave Physics, Numerical Relativity, and Black Hole physics in order to provide long-term research opportunities in classical and quantum gravity, gravitational-wave astronomy, and aspects of black hole perturbation theory. This internship program will help to develop skilled personnel for mega-science projects like LIGO, LIGO-India, LISA, etc.

Highlights

1. Pedagogical lectures and Hands-on Sessions on Gravitational Wave Data Analysis, Machine Learning, Numerical Relativity, and Black Hole Perturbation Theory.
2. Continuous scrutiny of the projects through assignments and interactions.
3. Long Term Research Opportunities in Computational Gravity and Black Hole Physics.
4. Exposure to Python and Mathematica computational skills.
5. Limited support to the interns is available for stationary and consumables as per the SERB norms.

Duration

8 weeks, between May-July, 2021

• Familiarity with basic aspects of general relativity is desirable.
• The selection will be based on the academic records, statement of purpose, and recommendation letter. Based on the number of applicants, there might be a short interview for selecting the candidates.
• Each selected intern must submit a report on the project she/he would undertake.
• On successful completion of the internship, the students will get a certificate on their participation and performance.
• The last date to apply is April 30, 2021.
