PhD Admission 2024 Announcement: Birla Institute of Technology

Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra has announced PhD Admission for the Monsoon Session 2024. Both Full-Time and Part-Time PhD Programmes are available.

Scholarships

Several Institute Research Scholarships (IRS) with a fellowship amount of Rs. 15,000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 20,000 per month for the next two years are available depending on performance. The minimum marks required for IRS may vary across departments and will be decided by an appropriate committee. The IRSs will be awarded based on the performance in the admission test, academic career, and interview. The PhD admission test is mandatory for candidates aspiring for the IRS.

• Date of PhD Written Test and Interview: To be announced soon, tentatively first week of June 2024

Eligibility Conditions

General Eligibility:

• Master’s Degree: M.Tech./ M.E./ M.Sc. (Engg.)/ M.Arch./ M.Pharm./ M.S. (Pharm.) (only from NIPERs)/ M.Sc. (Pharm.)/ M.Plan./ M.Sc./ MCA/ MBA/ M.A. or equivalent degree in a relevant branch from a recognized university/institute with minimum 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a ten-point scale.
• Bachelor’s Degree: B.Tech./ B.E./ B.Sc. (Engg.)/ B.Pharm./ B.Arch./ B.Plan. or equivalent degree in a relevant branch from a recognized university/institute with minimum 80% marks or 8.0 CGPA on a ten-point scale and a valid GATE/GPAT score with a minimum of 80 percentile.

Additional Notes:

• Candidates appearing in the final semester may also apply but must produce the final degree and mark sheet by 31st August 2024.
• Candidates with B.Tech./ B.E./ B.Sc. (Engg.)/ B.Pharm./ B.Arch./ B.Plan. or equivalent degrees with a minimum of 75% marks or 7.5 CGPA are also eligible but need to pass more qualifying Pre-PhD papers as per Section 9.1 of Ph.D. Regulation 2018.

Sponsored Candidates:

• Must have a minimum of two years of professional work experience in addition to the eligibility criteria.
• Should have valid sponsorship for at least three years.

Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates:

• Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks.
