Driven by the mission of “shaping the global future together,” the Atlantic Council is a nonpartisan organization that galvanizes US leadership and engagement worldwide. In partnership with allies and partners, it aims to shape solutions to global challenges, focusing on international fellowship and cooperation.

About the Program

The Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center (GEC) develops and promotes pragmatic and nonpartisan policy solutions designed to advance global energy security, enhance economic opportunity, and accelerate pathways to net-zero emissions. The Young Global Professionals (YGPs) provide crucial research and logistical support to the Center, participating in and attending events hosted by other programs at the Atlantic Council.

YGPs are integral to the GEC, engaging in all projects and actively participating in events, projects, and research. This position exposes candidates to the logistical elements of event-planning, think tank operations, research, and the publication process.

Successful candidates will have a passion for the work, an entrepreneurial ethos, and a collegial spirit while also being effective communicators. The GEC values strong writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to produce rigorous work under deadlines. A demonstrated interest in international affairs and/or energy and climate through coursework or experience is strongly preferred.

This internship is based at the Washington, DC headquarters. Candidates must be available to work in-person throughout the program’s duration. Interns will be compensated at a rate of $17.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to support the activities and projects of the staff.
  • Handle various logistical coordination for program events and activities.
  • Write correspondence and take notes at Council public events, roundtables, and strategy sessions.
  • Write analytical pieces for publication on GEC’s EnergySource blog.

Eligibility

  • Must be at least a college junior in good standing, a graduate student, or a recent graduate, preferably majoring in political science/international affairs, public policy, energy/environmental science, economics, or another field relevant to energy and climate policy.
  • Demonstrated interest in international affairs with a focus on energy, foreign policy, economics, or climate policy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to identify and work through challenges.
  • Aptitude and strong skills in research and writing.
  • Strong analytical, planning, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office suite.
  • Poise and professionalism in a team environment with colleagues and counterparts in the United States and abroad.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) in the office.
