IIT Madras Admission has opened applications for the Third Batch of its Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electronic Systems Program. This four-year program offers multiple exits, allowing students to earn a Foundational Level Certificate, Diploma, or the BS degree.
Currently, over 1,000 students are enrolled in the program, which equips them with industry-ready skills in the field of Electronic Systems.
The program aims to build a skilled workforce for India’s electronics and embedded manufacturing sector, aligning with the India Semiconductor Mission’s goal of establishing India as a global electronics manufacturing and design hub.
Launched in March 2023, the program prioritizes accessibility, affordability, and inclusiveness in education. Applications for the May 2024 term are open until May 26, 2024, and interested individuals can apply through the following link: https://study.iitm.ac.in/es/
Professor Boby George, the Faculty Coordinator for the BS in Electronic Systems program at IIT Madras, highlights its unique features, stating, “This program integrates online theory learning with hands-on laboratory experiences and in-person examinations. This innovative approach marks a significant milestone in making high-quality education accessible to anyone interested in studying from this program, underscoring IIT Madras’ commitment to providing impactful learning opportunities.”
Professor S. Aniruddhan, another Faculty Coordinator for the program, elaborates on its structure, emphasizing the importance of in-person practical experiences. He states, “The positive experience and memories for both students and staff reaffirm the importance of incorporating in-person practical experiences into our curriculum. This initiative represents a significant step forward in redefining the possibilities of hybrid education.”
Concerning laboratory experiments, the program employs a two-part approach where students conduct weekly experiments and submit videos explaining their work. This culminates in an in-person visit to the IIT Madras campus for further experiments and examinations.
The program’s first set of laboratory sessions, conducted between November and December 2023 in four batches, saw participation from over 700 students across India. These sessions enabled students to apply theoretical knowledge practically, fostering a deeper understanding of electronic systems and providing opportunities for networking and interaction.
Student feedback on the in-person lab sessions has been positive, with Mr. Kailash Nair from Odisha praising the interactive nature of the sessions. Mr. Ram Tripati from Varanasi appreciates the program’s emphasis on industry-level skills, while Mr. Suryanarayana, a senior learner from Vishakapatnam, values the opportunity for personal renewal and academic growth.
During their campus visits, students demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm and dedication to the hands-on components of the program, earning praise from faculty members and teaching assistants.
