About the University
The Assam Accord is credited with establishing Tezpur University, along with Assam University and Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. The Indian Parliament enacted Tezpur University in 1994. P. V. Narasimha Rao, the then Prime Minister of India, presided over the university’s inauguration.
Initially, Darrang College in Tezpur served as the university’s operational base. It also briefly utilized the premises of Tezpur Law College. Later, the university acquired 262 acres of land in Napaam, a suburb located approximately 15 km east of Tezpur. Within a few months, the university relocated to its current permanent site.
